jockeys&jillys® 2007

derbyCups
the first saturday in may will be here before we know it! time to start planning the third annual jockeys&jillys® party! yippee! so, there is somewhat of a twist this year—the running of the 133rd kentucky derby is also cinco de mayo. any ideas on how to meld the two? lime juleps? sombreros with flowers on top? a mariachi band singing my old kentucky home? help!

Kentucky Margaritas!
Combine 1-1/4 parts Kentucky Bourbon (Jim Beam) with a splash of Triple Sec and a splash of sour mix. Shake with ice and serve in glasses with a lime wedge and (optional) salt on the rim.

I have the Margarita Rimmer tin from Stirrings and it is delicious, though I've only tried it with regular margaritas. I picked it up at World Market :)

how about derby nachos and mexican beer... i think we even brought tecate last year (if i remember right).

not the southern sophisticated party of the derby stands(but we can just pretend we are sitting in the infield.

How about serving margaritas in julep cups and serving mexican goodies on doily lined silver trays? You could use centerpieces and decorations in red, white and green (Mexican flag colors). Kind of like if Salma Hayek and Ashley Judd were celebrtaing the day together :)
