reader poll: best candle?

joMaloneCandle
i'm all about the luxury candle these days and am curious—what's your favorite? i've had great luck with the caldrea candles and the ones in the cute blue tins from anthropologie, but i'm looking for something new. i'm sure this gorgeous frangrance combining candle from jo malone of london with its trio of scents—grapefruit, spring jasmine, and french lime blossom—would fit the bill, but it's a little too luxury. at $185, well that's just too much money for me to burn—literally!

I love Cloon Keen, but they might be an Irish company that doesn't export. A nice Acqua di Parma candle's always good too!

I have to say you casn't beat a yankee candle! They are the only (affordable) candles that actually smell like they are supposed to, my favourite is the sun washed linen one...

Late entry here...but I really like Slatkin. The Bamboo and Jasmine is an awesome oriental - mysterious and seductive. Green tea and pear smells clean and fresh. White flowers is the only floral fragrance I've ever liked. Iced Tea is nice for summer. Really, the only one I don't care for is Oriental Woods, which is funny because I often like woodsy fragrances, especially in the fall but I didn't care for this one.

Another nice line I'd like to try is the Archipelogo ones that have place names like Havana. I smelled them in store once and liked them a lot.

Great topic.

You have got to get a Paddywax candle, they are made in atlanta & the olive tree one is wonderful!

Beeswax or soy are the safest candles to burn. Did you know that you cannot blend essential oils or true perfume esssence with paraffin. If you are purchasing a scented paraffin candle, you are not only burning the sludge (paraffin) that is left over after asphalt is removed from petroleum, but you are putting your health at risk with the carbon monoxide and other noxious fumes that paraffin exudes. This can lead not only to health problems, but soot in heating and cooling ducts can irreparably damage them. Insurance will not cover replacement for this type of damage.

Er'go soy candles are the very best I have ever tried. They are fragranced with essential oils and essential perfume oils. They are so lovely and fragrant, that one candle can sit in a room and waft essence for months without ever being lit. With any soy or beeswax candle be sure to look for 100% cotton wicks and no lead base. Natural colored beeswax is best. Beeswax cleans the air as it burns. The natural fragrance is enchanting.

I am convinced that human and environmental safety can go hand in hand with chic decorating and enjoyment.

Love your blog!!!

BELLE FLEUR'S FIGUE NOIR IS BY FAR THE MOST INCREDIBLE SCENTED CANDLE, DEFINITELY A MUST TRY FOR ANYONE THAT LOVES SEDUCTIVE FRAGRANCES. I WISH THEY MADE IT INTO A PERSONAL FRAGRANCE TO WEAR.
