a call for help

so, i've been working from home for the past few months now and i have yet to figure out what to wear. sounds silly, i know, but really – you feel like a grinning idiot in heels and pearls sitting in your spare-bedroom-turned-home office. on the flip side, you can only feel good about yourself for so long in a t-shirt and track pants. what do all you other work-from-home women wear? any suggestions for me? please help!

Well, I don't work from home, but I work in a very small, casual office where everyone comes in shorts and t-shirts. I think that's great, but I just can't do it. So I usually wear a cute skirt, a t-shirt and flip flops or some capris and a t-shirt. Still comfy/casual, but also cute...at least it is in my head.

I think you need to embrace the track pants! I work at home, mostly in my jammies or Indian kurtas (big, tunic-like nightshirts). I just don't see the point of dirtying up nice clothes if no one is going to see you.

That said, sometimes feeling grungy doesn't make me feel very productive. If I'm in that kind of mood, I always try to get cleaned up a bit (get out of the jammies, take a shower, and then put on something comfortable but that doesn't make me think of napping). And I often try to schedule at least a few meetings out per week, even if I don't really need to -- sometimes, you need to get dressed up a bit and get out of the house.

I also keep a few thrifted "house dresses" on hand to wear around -- they're cute enough that you can wear outside to get the paper, but they're comfortable enough for puttering around the home office. This one is a favorite -- and I just spruce it up with the ribbon belt on if I'm running down to the store.

I am so with you on this! I, too, am working from home. What I have decided I want are really great looking body conscious track suits in some kind of high tech, edgy fabric - ie stuff that I would feel good about wearing into town. No juicy couture - no cheese ball... But where do I go to buy these, umm...items that I have figured out in my head?

I work from home. Somedays, I dress up more than others. I don't want my 'goodish' clothes not getting any use. Other days I'm a tracksuit girl. In summer I often just wear my swimming cos. and throw on a cool dress. I can pop in the pool with the kids anytime. The advantage of working from home.
